The Journey

The Savoie Capital investment management team has over 50 years of experience in portfolio management, trading, and risk management of equities and derivatives.

We have experience as Portfolio Managers, Investment Bankers, Trading Specialists, Designated Primary Market Makers (DPM), and Market Makers in derivatives on multiple exchanges and across multiple asset classes – both on the trading floor and electronically.

Paul Savoie

Paul Savoie

Managing Partner | Chief Investment Officer

Paul Savoie has been involved in exchange-traded and OTC derivatives since 1992. Paul has been a member of the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE), Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT), and Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME). He began his career on the floor of the CBOE where, as an independent trader, he learned trading and risk management techniques in a number of financial markets. As an independent market maker, he was responsible for making markets in equity and index options including IBM, Ford, Ciena, Solectron, LSI Logic, Enron, Starbucks, Honeywell, SBC, Diamond ETF (DIA), and the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJX).

As a member of the CBOE, Paul was actively involved with the exchange, serving as a member of the Floor Official Committee. Beginning in 2002, he has led the development and deployment of automated high-frequency proprietary trading strategies on the CBOT, CME, ICE, NYMEX, and COMEX. As an electronic Market Maker on the CME, CBOT, NYMEX, and ICE, Paul was directly responsible for electronic market making of futures trading operations on the mini-Dow, Russell 1000 and 2000, Natural Gas, WTI, and North Sea Crude Oil.

Since 2009, Paul has developed and managed custom alternative investment solutions for single-family offices and high-net-worth individuals. Paul has been part of multiple national and world championship sailing teams. He has enjoyed coaching his four children's sports teams and is still very active in the Orange County and Chicago youth sports communities.

Ben Phillips

Ben Phillips, CFA

Managing Partner | Chief Investment Strategist

Ben Phillips has been an institutional investor for over 15 years. Previously, he was Chief Investment Officer at EventShares, one of the first government policy-based investment firms. EventShares identified changes in government policy and invested based on actions in Washington D.C. Ben was also a founder and Managing Director of the actionable market insights firm, MarketDesk Research. Prior to founding EventShares, he was with Goldman Sachs Asset Management (GSAM), where he had portfolio management responsibilities across several multi-sector total return funds.

Ben has also held senior investing roles at Providence Equity Partners and Lord Abbett. He is a CFA charterholder and received an MBA and BSBA in Finance from the University of Missouri. He is actively involved in the community serving on the Board of Directors for Grandma's House of Hope and CFA Society Orange County.

When he is not studying corporate financial statements, credit spreads, or capital markets activity, Ben enjoys golf, ice hockey, skiing, surfing, or really anything else involving the beach or outdoors with his wife and three young children.

Rick

Rick Dooley

CCO | Head of Risk

Rick Dooley began his trading career with Cornerstone Trading LLC in 1999 on the floor of the CBOE. He was responsible for making markets in over 40 stocks, including Cornerstone’s DPM/Specialist post. Rick was actively involved with the CBOE serving as a member of the Market Performance Committee, and Market Quality and Allocation Committee. In 2005, he became Director of Trading Operations for Cornerstone where he was responsible for risk management and compliance of the firm, including market making and proprietary algorithmic trading.

From 2010 to 2013, Rick served as CEO of Cornerstone Trading. Rick studied mathematics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and received a Master of Computer Science Degree from the University of Chicago.

Rick is actively involved in his community and enjoys driving his son hours across the midwest for travel hockey and baseball.
