Meet the team
Paul Savoie
CEO | CIO | Head PM
Mr. Savoie has been involved in exchange traded and OTC derivatives since 1992. Mr. Savoie has been a member of the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE), Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) and Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME). He began his career on the floor of the CBOE where, as an independent trader, he learned trading and risk management techniques in a number of financial markets. Mr. Savoie was an independent market maker on the trading floor of the CBOE in equity and index options including IBM, Ford, Ciena, Solectron, LSI Logic, Enron, Starbucks, Honeywell, SBC, Diamond ETF (DIA) and the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJX). As a member of the CBOE, Mr. Savoie was actively involved with the exchange, serving as a member of the Floor Official Committee. Beginning in 2002, he has led the development and deployment of automated high frequency proprietary trading strategies on the CBOT, CME, ICE, NYMEX, and COMEX. As an electronic Market Maker on the CME, CBOT, NYMEX and ICE, Mr. Savoie was directly responsible for electronic market making of futures trading operations on the mini-Dow, Russell 1000 and 2000, Natural Gas, and WTI and North Sea Crude Oil. Since 2009, Mr. Savoie has developed and managed custom alternative investment solutions for Single Family Offices and the High Net Worth individual.
Rick Dooley
CCO | Head of Risk
Mr. Dooley began his trading career with Cornerstone Trading LLC in 1999 on the floor of the CBOE. He was responsible for making markets in over 40 stocks, including Cornerstone’s DPM/Specialist post. Mr. Dooley was actively involved with the CBOE serving as a member of the Market Performance Committee, and Market Quality and Allocation Committee. In 2005 Mr. Dooley became Director of Trading Operations for Cornerstone where he was responsible for risk management and compliance of the firm, including market making and proprietary algorithmic trading. From 2010 to 2013 Mr. Dooley served as CEO of Cornerstone Trading. Mr. Dooley studied mathematics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and received a Masters of Computer Science Degree from the University of Chicago.
Jefferson Martin
Portfolio Manager
Mr. Martin’s risk arbitrage career began in 1986 as a member of the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE), eventually expanding to the the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME).  He has a vast amount of derivatives trading expertise as a market maker in equities, equity indexes, physical commodities, and Eurodollars. In 1989, Mr. Martin leveraged his cross-market expertise and formed an independent trading operation. As managing partner, he was responsible for the creation and coordination of operations, risk management, and trading strategies on three major exchanges (CBOE, CBOT, CME).  While a member of the CBOE, he also served on the Exemption Committee. After exiting floor trading operations in 2006, Mr. Martin joined AFJ Global, where he developed and executed high frequency arbitrage trading strategies in the Crude Oil and Natural Gas markets. From 2008 to the present, Mr. Martin has been managing the complex financial and portfolio needs of the High Net-Worth Individual. Mr. Martin holds a BS in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina.
Ben Phillips
PM | Investment Strategist
Ben Phillips is the Chief Investment Strategist at Savoie Capital, a family office RIA based in Newport Beach. Savoie specializes in options-based yield strategies, portfolio overlays, concentrated hedging, and thematic growth portfolios. The firm also helps clients simplify complex family office structures through transparent and liquid investment vehicles. Previously, Ben was Chief Investment Officer at EventShares, one of the first government policy-based investment firms. EventShares identified changes in government policy and invested based on actions in Washington D.C., which can be a powerful leading indicator for investment returns. Ben is also a founder and Managing Director of the actionable market insights firm, MarketDesk Research. Prior to founding EventShares, Ben was with Goldman Sachs Asset Management (GSAM), where he had portfolio management responsibilities across several multi-sector total return funds. He has also held senior investing roles at Providence Equity Partners and Lord Abbett. Ben is a CFA charterholder and received an MBA and BSBA in Finance from the University of Missouri and is currently on the Board of Directors for CFA Society Orange County.
